K's Kill Redlegs

07/25/2011

The weather held out just long enough for the Redlegs and Mariners to hook up for a 9 inning affair on Sunday morning. Originally scheduled to take place at Carleton Davidson Stadium in Springfield, the game had to be moved at the last minute to Kettering Fields due to wet field conditions.

The Redlegs offense, who put up a combined 50 runs over the last 3 games, was silenced by Mariners starter Jordan Pergrem. Pergrem went 7 innings, struck out 8, and allowed only 1 run on his way to the win. Redlegs hitters struck out 11 times on the afternoon and left 13 men on base as they just couldn’t seem to get hits in key situations. The Mariners offense was led by MVP candidate Chris Ranstead as he launched his 6th and 7th homeruns of the season, driving in 4 runs in the game. The Redlegs got on the board in the 5th when Robinson led off with a single, stole 2nd, and was driven in by Clark. This run came as Brad's 100th career MVABL RBI. The only other run came in the 9th when Robinson was able to drive Jared Bradley in with a fielder’s choice groundball.

Brad Clark continued his hot hitting going 3-4 with an RBI and a walk. Brad is now 17 for his last 27 (.630) with a HR and 10 RBI during the span. Justin McCurdy picked up 2 more hits on the day extending his hit streak to a career high 5 games.
